Men's Designer Neckties: How to Purchase Expensive Neckwear for Much Less

By

Attach the word “designer” in front of “tie” and you’re on your way toward paying much more than you would for a no name necktie! The price tag can jump from tens of dollars to hundreds of dollars with just that one descriptor! That is not to say that there aren’t some fine men’s ties whose choice of silk weaves and construction make them worth every penny! Take Dolcepunta neckwear from Italy, which is made of just the right weighted silk to produce an 11 fold tie! I have had the privilege of seeing one in person, and it was amazing – certain to last a lifetime with proper care. However, just because a tie is expensive doesn’t mean you must pay that much for it. If you are willing to give vintage ties a try, this including well maintained neckties from yesteryear, and skinny ties which are currently popular, you can indulge in the best designer neckwear at a fraction of its original retail price.

Owners Take Good Care of Their Designer Ties

For the most part, people who surround themselves with luxury items usually take good care of them. After all, they willingly paid full price for them! When it comes to clothing, if their shirts and suits are the best money can buy, so, too are accessories such as belts, shoes and neckties, all of which are well cared for. If care instructions call for a dry cleaning, they already have a trusted establishment they send all their fineries to.

Designer ties are an investment and as such are well maintained, so they are often in excellent condition when resold in the vintage marketplace. No one can know for certain how often a particular tie had been worn, but even those used regularly hold up really well because they are well made to begin with. They maintain their shape very well and have years of wear left.

Some Patterns & Designs Can Only be Found in the Vintage Marketplace

Designers of fine men’s neckwear release their collections seasonally, and once they have sold out, the only way to acquire them is look for pre-owned neckwear or vintage ties if they were made years ago. On rare occasion dead stock ties surface, meaning they were produced the previous year or 20 years ago and have their original tags still attached, but were never worn, but they are very hard to find. More realistically they are available as vintage finds and at very reasonable prices.

Conclusion

When it comes to shopping, I like to think of it as value per dollar spent. I am not here to convince you to stop purchasing new clothing if that makes you happy. I do want to point out that buying men’s vintage designer ties could possibly make you even happier, especially if you watch your bottom line. In the process it will open up a new world of outstanding men’s neckwear at outstanding prices!
